Up until this point, I don't think I've shared too much about my personal collection except for some of the PSA graded cards I've acquired. With the release of The Last Dance on ESPN, I thought today would be a great day to share a small PC focus I've had on and off for years, and that's a PC of Rik Smits. If you are familiar with Rik Smits, a/k/a The Dunking Dutchman, it is likely because you were a big NBA fan around that time. Rik was a key piece to the always dangerous Indiana Pacers playoff teams back in the Jordan/Ewing/Reggie era. Some of my favorite memories of this time was watching the Pacers in the playoffs, seeing Smits match up against Ewing and I can still name BOTH of the Davis players on those Pacers teams (Dale & Antonio). While they never won a championship during Rik's tenure, they were always a fun team to watch play. My fandom of Rik Smits goes back to his days at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Growing up in the area, and my parents both attended the school, they bought season tickets to the men's basketball team every year. As a young kid who was tall for his age, I loved watching Smits play because he could play strong in the paint but he also had such a smooth jump shot. So - if you have any Rik Smits cards you're looking to move, I'd love to see if they are ones that I need for my collection. Are there any players that you collect that people may find unique? |
