I joined Twitter a few years ago, as I found that there was a good group of sports card collectors on there. I think some of my first follows were Topps, Beckett and Chris Olds. Anyways, since I joined Twitter I've been fortunate enough to win a few contests that were held by a number of different Twitter accounts. I'm not the kind of person who is going to RT everything in the world, because I'd rather someone else win if it's an item that I wouldn't really be interested in. If it's an item I'm truly interested in, then I'll give it a shot and RT the message necessary to win the item.
Over the past two weeks, I've had unbelievable luck with Twitter contests as I've won TWO pretty cool cards over the past two weeks! The first contest was by ForLoveOfHomePlate.com (@HomePlateCards on Twitter) and it was to help promote InTheGame's Past, Present and Future product release. While I'm more of a BGS 9.5 guy, I've also been trying to collect some 80's baseball cards that I was never able to afford as a kid. This PSA 8 1985 Donruss Kirby Puckett rookie card was the potential prize and I couldn't pass up the chance to finally add a Donruss Kirby Puckett RC to my collection. Needless to say, I was super psyched when I won this contest and @HomePlateCards shipped it out in a timely fashion. Overall, I'm super happy with the win and I'd suggest you give them a follow as they post some good content.
The other contest win was by MAB Celebrity Services (@MABCelebrity on Twitter, mab-celebrity.com), who promote autograph signings that they are involved in. They've put on some great signings and used to have players signing at the Shriner's Show that I used to attend when I lived in MA. Anyways, I like to follow them as it's a good way to keep an eye on autograph signings in my area. Also, they usually do RT contests to promote upcoming signings. This is an example of where I decide if I should enter the contest or not, because I'd rather hold off and win something I'd really want then entering the contest every time. When they promoted a chance to win a Wade Boggs autographed card (in Red Sox uniform, or as much of one that Panini can show), I figured I had to enter as Boggs was my favorite player growing up and one of the first players I liked to collect. I was so excited to win and the card showed up in perfect condition. If you like to attend autograph signings, give this company a follow!
I had to share my luck and hopefully, for those of you who read this, you'll have luck sometime soon in a Twitter contest. My advice: don't enter every contest, especially if it's a prize you could care less about. A) the RTs will flood your timeline and potentially turn off some of your followers and B) there may be someone out there who TRULY wants to win that card and it'd make them much happier than it would make you.
