When you first open the package (see pictures below), you know that you have just purchased a unique collectable of your favorite fooball player. That was my first impression of the Walter Payton Keepr that I received to review.
As a life long Bears fan, Walter Payton has to be one of my all-time favorite players, and I was fortunate to have watched him play during his career. When I was approached about this opportunity, I agreed to write a review because I felt that I could give the product a fair assessment due to my admiration of Walter Payton. As a fan of Payton, I could determine whether or not this would be a product that I would want based on the quality / quantity of the material.
When I opened up the packaging, I was impressed by the quality of the materials (see pictures below). The box, the envelope, the gold sticker that seals the item, you could tell that this was not a product that was put together without attention to detail. The card itself was actually much cooler than I had expected. It reminded me of a very thick version of the old Classic calling cards, and the USB attachment slides into the card so it doesn't appear to have a USB attachment upon first review. The company even provides a little sleeve that the card fits into for safe keeping.
Once you place the USB into the computer, your screen becomes a shrine / tribute to the player. As you can see in the picture above, it looks like a desktop dedicated to the player with what looks like it would be a phenomenal wallpaper and icons to check out the videos, pictures and statistics. There are 10 Walter Payton videos to choose from on this card and they advertise "more than 45 minutes..." worth of footage on each of their cards. There were also 24 high-quality photographs and full regular and post season statistics. The quality of the videos was fantastic and the pictures made it look like you were there live to see it happen.
The only negative aspect of the product: it's PC-only. As a Mac owner, I had to borrow my wife's laptop to test out the product. I'm not sure the reason for why it's PC only, but I'd like to see them overcome that obstacle given the increasing number of Apple product owners. If you want to advance the product even further, perhaps they can turn the product into an app?
The insert in the packaging referenced that "a significant portion of the proceeds from each sale will benefit the NFL Player Care Foundation (PCF) and other non-profit organizations dedicated to helping retired NFL players and their families with medical and financial hardships. The NFL is donating 100% of the licensing fees it receives from KEEPR Media to the NFL Player Care Foundation."
You can purchase one for the Football fan / collector in your life at: http://www.keeprmedia.com. You can also visit the site for more details and a full list of players that they offer. It's a cool product, if you're a big fan of one of the players listed then I would suggest giving one a try.
